Must See “State of the Art” Tour of UW Madison’s Polymer Engineering Center (PEC) November 8th, 2023 @ University of Wisconsin Madison
Nov 8 @ 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

The Milwaukee chapter of SPE would like to invite you to take advantage of the unique chance to tour the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Polymer Engineering Center (PEC) and the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023, starting at 5:30 PM.

The event will be hosted by Professor Lih-Sheng (Tom) Turng, Ph.D., and Paula Hohoff, M.Sc., Chief Engineer of the PEC.

The polymer engineering activities at the University of Wisconsin-Madison date back to 1946 when Professor Ronald Daggett started the first mechanical engineering plastics course taught in the nation. Many of the Wisconsin plastics companies have their roots originating from UW-Madison.

Currently, research interests at the PEC range from traditional plastics and polymeric/metal composites to bio-based polymers and composites; from conventional to emerging and innovative processes like 3D printing; from geometric modeling and prototyping to process control and automation; from nanofilm and nanocomposites to microcellular plastics; and from advanced modeling and simulation to AI-based tools for design and manufacturing.

The breadth and depth of research activities at the PEC at UW-Madison have made it one of the nation’s strongest research groups in the areas of mechanical engineering, polymer engineering, and polymer composites research.
